Overview:
A visit to the Arenal region during your Costa Rica vacation will most definitely be a highlight of your trip. Arenal Volcanois the smallest and most active volcano in Costa Rica. Once long dormant, Arenal erupted in July of 1968 and has been active ever since. Before this, the last eruption is thought to have been around 1500. The volcano is approximately 3,000 years old and has an elevation of 5,500 feet. Arenal puts out an unforgettable light and smoke show nearly every day. Night-time viewing is the most spectacular, with glowing lava and mini explosions lighting up the sky.

The Arenal region is rich in natural attractions; experience thermo-mineral hot springs, waterfall hikes, horseback riding, birdwatching, biking and boat tours on the Cano Negro. Visitors to the Arenal region enjoy easy access to the nearby bustling town of La Fortuna with its unique nightlife, restaurants and shops.

Activities in the Area:
Some activities include: Arenal Hanging Bridges Tour, Arenal Volcano Tour, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, hike to Rio Celeste and Tenorio Volcano, Safari Float Trip on the Penas Blancas River, ATV Tours, Whitewater Rafting at the Balsa and Toro Rivers and Sky Trek and Sky Tram Tours at La Fortuna.

Transportation Tips:
Private transfers are recommended to and from the airport. Driving distance is approximately 3-4 hours from either LIR or SJO (varies by hotel). Driving is fairly easy over well-paved roads from both major airports. ts.

Travel Tips:
Bring long pants, a camera, light jacket, swimsuit, binoculars, walking/hiking shoes, rubber soled shoes for water activities, a small backpack for excursions and a rain jacket.



Important Note: HOLY WEEK is an important religious holiday in Costa Rica. During late March to early April certain activities operated by local independent tour companies may not be available. Plus, alcoholic beverages may not be available at your resort or at establishments outside the resort.
