Vacation Express now offers its Costa Rica-bound clients the opportunity to customize a multiple region itinerary based on
your specific interests and personal preferences. Costa Rica is extremely easy to navigate with an astounding number of
different environments to discover. Sometimes it's difficult to choose upon which area you want to focus. NOW you don't have
to choose - you can experience two or three in a week! In addition to airport/hotel/airport transfers, you also have the
option of taking advantage of shared or private transfers between the regions with knowledgeable driver/guides. Or you may
opt to rent a car and drive yourself, taking in all the sites along the way, at your own pace. In addition, you’ll find an
extensive list of optional tours/activities available for pre-booking in each region. We've made “building” and booking your
customized Costa Rica multiple region vacation easy – just select your preferred air schedule and fill in your transportation
options, your hotel selections and any optional tours you want to include in each region. Plus, we've put together a few
sample multi-region itineraries to get you started with suggested hotels and activities suitable for specific interests. Or
feel free to design your own!
GETTING THERE
There are two international airports in Costa Rica. All major tourist regions are accessible from either airport. However,
hotels in the San José ( and the Central Valley), Puntarenas, Manuel Antonio and Mid- and South-Pacific areas are most
conveniently served by San José's Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO); hotels in Guanacaste province in Liberia are
most conveniently served by the Daniel Oduber International Airport, Liberia (LIR). Hotels in the Monteverde region are
generally 3.5 hours from LIR and 4 hours from SJO. Hotels in the Arenal region are generally 3 to 3.5 hours from either
airport. Hotels in the Nicoya Peninsula region are approximately 4.5 hours from either airport.
GETTING AROUND: (Transportation Options)
Vacation Express offers 4 different transportation options:
Shared Transfer: Available from Daniel Oduber International Airport, Liberia (LIR), Guanacaste region only. Clients
share a bus/van and are taken to one or more resorts before being dropped off at their selected hotel, prices are per person.
Shared Shuttle Transfer: Shuttle services are available on specific daily schedules only, to and from many of Costa
Rica's most popular sites as well as from the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) to hotels in San Jose downtown (or
from the hotel to the airport). Clients share a bus to transfer between resorts with clients of multiple tour companies in a
country-wide bus pool that covers multiple regions and areas; prices are per person. Shuttle services are one of the most
inexpensive ways to travel around Costa Rica, accompanied by knowledgeable and professional drivers in air-conditioned
minivans or buses. Service is available for individuals, couples, families and even groups.
Private Transfer: Clients may opt for a private van or vehicle to transport them directly to and from their
destination; prices are per vehicle. This is a good option for families or groups of friends traveling together, allowing you
to be picked up on your own schedule and chauffeured by an experienced driver to many of Costa Rica's sites, while enjoying
the wonderful panoramic views the country has to offer.
Car Rentals: Vacation Express offers car rentals only for the entire duration of your stay (i.e., if you book a 7
night vacation, you must reserve an 8 day car rental and cannot do just 4 days). Vehicles must be picked up and dropped off
at the airport (LIR or SJO). Car Rental options are displayed in the “Car Rental” area during the booking process. Car
rental rates do not include mandatory insurance (approx. $17-$26 p/day) as well as an $800 refundable credit card deposit.
These fees are payable in destination when the car is picked up. If you choose to pick-up or leave the car at your resort,
pick-up/drop-off fees may apply and are also payable in destination. Drivers must be at least 21 to rent a car. Car
descriptions are as follows:
Suzuki Alto – Mini, allows 2 adults and 2 small children
Suzuki Jimmy – SUV, allows 2 adults, 2 children/teens and one infant or 3 small children
Daihatsu BEGO – SUV 4 Wheel Drive, allows 2 adults and 2 children/teens
Toyota Prado – SUV,
allows 7 passengers
Intra-Costa Rica Air: Two domestic airlines offer daily flights to most of the major domestic destinations. However,
traveling by land affords visitors the opportunity to see and experience the unique countryside, accompanied by informative
driver commentaries if you choose a transfer service option. Call for details on available domestic air arrangements.
