Marriage Requirements:
• Valid Passports are mandatory for Bride and Groom
• Tourist Cards (obtained from airline/at the airport)
• Must be in Mexico 3 Full Business Days prior to ceremony (Saturday, Sunday and Public holidays not included)
• Blood Tests; must be taken locally in Mexico (mandatory for both Bride & Groom to determine blood type, HIV, RH Factor and venereal deseases). Must be done at the Hotel, cost varies up to $150.00 USD per couple (cash paid directly to the doctor). Should the test come back positive for HIV, legally the couple cannot be wed in Mexico.
• A copy of Final Divorce Decree (if either party is divorced). (Records must be translated into Spanish and attached with an Apostille. An Apostille is obtained by the Secretary of State of your Country and required by Mexican authorities.)
Note: In the event that the Bride is divorced and has kept the ex-husband’s last name, the marriage certificate will not indicate the maiden name. If you wish to have your maiden name on the certificate you will be required to present a divorce decree in English and one translated into Spanish and both with Apostille seals.)
• A copy of Certificate of Death (if either party is widowed)
• 4 Witnesses are required:
If the witness is a Mexican Citizen: A photo I.D. is required.
Non-Mexican witnesses require the following:
-Valid Passport (Mandatory to be able to be a Witness)
-Tourist Card obtained at Airport
-Must be in Mexico 3 full business days prior to ceremony (Saturday, Sunday and Public holidays not included)
Important Information
The Ceremony must be scheduled with officials at least one month in advance. All necessary paperwork is handled directly by the Wedding Coordinator at your hotel. All hotels require a minimum of 3-business days notice to complete all formalities. Bride, Groom and Witnesses are required to be at the hotel 3 business days prior to the ceremony. The hotel requires all original documents and one photocopy. The Wedding cannot be performed unless all documents are in order (No exceptions). All documents become property of the Mexican state in which the ceremony takes place. Laws and requirements are subject to change without notice in accordance with the laws of Mexico.
Marriage in Mexico is valid in any country, however it is your responsibility to insure it is recorded with your own country and state. The Marriage Certificate that you will receive is in Spanish; official translation services are available at an additional cost. Please contact your Court House to inquire about the procedure to legalize your Marriage Certificate. |
