Activities and Recreations at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort, Playa del Carmen

Sandos Caracol Eco Resort is located on a beautiful white sandy beach on the exclusive Riviera Maya. Lounge chairs and palapas are provided on the beach, and there are two beach bars, one for all guests and one in the exclusive Select Club area of the beach. The resort includes two large swimming pools for all guests; the main one with a protected area for children. There is also a pool in the exclusive Select Club area.

Unique Activities
Guests can be a part of the adventure and enjoy spectacular Mayan ceremonies, eco trails, local animals, a suspension bridge, sacred trees and crystal clear cenotes surrounded by a unique natural setting. Learn about the environment at the Eco Club, a fun educational way to witness environment, local fauna and flora.

The Sandos Caracol complex also features a water park, specifically designed to give kids and adults a thrilling aquatic experience! The water park features 29 slides and is divided into three areas: the Aqua Park for young children with 17 mini slides, a children's area with 5 slides and an area for teenagers and adults with 7 slides. There are fun water features and a delicious snack bar, all surrounded by water spouts to make for a wet and wild adventure!

The All-Nature Experience is a unique eco-activities program which allows guests to explore and learn about Sandos Caracol Eco Resort on-site ecosystems throughout the week. Offering seven daily themed tours, Gueses can choose the theme that best fits their vacation style to experience several related eco-activities tied into one tour:

Additionally, a spectacular yearly event to celebrate the Day of the Dead can be experienced on November 1 and 2.

The resort’s most beloved eco-activities will remain available separately from the theme tours, including: swimming in the Jade River, Animal Keeper, Eco Tours, Sensory Experience, swimming in the cenote, bike path, romantic boat ride, and underground Maya cooking.

Adventure Activities:
Bike Path: Become familiar with the hotel's many natural attractions while you enjoy this route. You can choose the path that is best suited to your physical capacity. This circuit consists of three sections that will take you through the jungle to discover an authentic archeological site of the Mayan culture.

The Underground Springs Route: This path winds through the jungle among a series of natural underground springs that are located within the property. You’ll enjoy learning how these bodies of underground water originated, which are characteristic of and unique to the region.

Mangrove Path: Explore, discover and enjoy one of the least-known habitats that is of the greatest importance to the coastal zones. The mangroves will captivate you and allow you to discover the most important cradle and fountain of life on the Mexican Caribbean coast.

Romantic Boat Ride: Experience a relaxed boat ride through a winding natural river that allows you to come in contact with a diverse array of native plants and animals (reservation required, couples only).

Flora and Fauna:
EcoClub Nursery: Visit the hotel's nursery and get to know all the native plants of the region. If you wish to participate in the program of plant propagation, you can help plant much more than just a tree.

Mangroves: All throughout the complex you’ll have the opportunity to encounter and admire this surprising natural habitat that serves as a refuge for a large number of wildlife species.

Organic Garden: In this space you can learn vegetable growing techniques to try out at your own home. Promote sustainability by sharing your knowledge — and your organic produce — with your neighbors.

Nature Activities:
Deer Encounter: Quietly arrive at the grounds and admire these white-tailed deer. Observe them interacting with other species and take unique pictures.

Discover the Mayan Jungle: Whether morning, afternoon or night, stay alert and we’re certain that you’ll observe some of the wildlife present at the hotel. There are more than 60 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and crustaceans.

Turtle Lagoon: Enjoy observing several species of freshwater turtles in this natural body of water. Don’t miss the chance to take some photos when they come to the surface to sunbathe on the rocks and logs within the lagoon.

Iguanas: You can admire an infinite number of iguanas from the region throughout the Sandos Caracol complex. You’ll have the chance to view these prehistoric examples of jungle wildlife at close range and take pictures to remember your experience.

Mangrove Crabs: These peculiar inhabitants of the mangroves will surprise you with their bright colors, strange walk and unique characteristics. Due to their reproductive cycles, you are most likely to see them between May and September.

Plant a Tree: Sandsos supports the protection and conservation of Mexican forest in the state of Quintana Roo. Be part of this important program.

Eco Education:
Eco-Tour: Take a remarkable walk around the natural areas. The guides will help you observe the extraordinary details that only the Maya jungle offers, like the underground springs, wildlife and beautiful flowers characteristic of this region.

Eco-Tour Kids: The Kids Club staff has a surprise for your children. In this area specially prepared for little ones, they'll learn to respectfully interact with the environment.

Eco-Tips: Throughout the resort you will find ecological suggestions that will help you lead a more sustainable lifestyle and that will allow you to save money while caring for the environment.

Carbon Footprint: During eco-talks and through clear examples in the hotel you’ll learn how Sandos Caracol is supporting the environment by saving energy and generating less carbon dioxide emissions (CO2). For example, you can enjoy the hot water in the ecological rooms with a clear conscience, because all of the water is heated without contaminating the environment. With diverse, innovative projects Sandos has succeeded in reducing their CO2 emissions by up to 70 percent.

Golf is also available at the nearby Corasol Golf Club (fees apply), Nick Price's most golfer-friendly creation, featuring 18 holes, a par 71 and 7,043 yds. It offers a modern Club House and exclusive Beach Club. Grand Coral's cutting-edge Playa del Carmen golf course preserves the environment of the area.
