The province of Guanacaste covers most of the northwestern part of
Costa
Rica. This picturesque region opens a doorway to the romance and serenity of flat lands, green mountains and rich foliage. The Guanacaste region boasts amazing diversity, from towering active volcanoes to lush sugarcane fields and cattle ranches, to from thick lagoons and unburdened beaches. The Guanacaste region has a wide variety of national parks and reserves with plenty of sightseeing and historical tours available. It is also the ideal place for those who want to enjoy water sports such as surfing, fishing, snorkeling or scuba diving. The area offers some of the best deep-sea diving and deep-sea fishing in the world. Explore amazing savannas, horseback ride into the forest or just relax on the unspoiled, multi-hued sand beaches.
Activities in the Area:
Sample activities include: Palo Verde National Park, day trip to Nicaragua, Rincon de la Vieja and Miravalles Volcanoes, surfing beaches in Tamarindo and south to Nosara, Carillo, day trips to Arenal and Monteverde, canopy tours, rappelling, white water rafting, Santa Rosa National Park, river kayaking, birdwatching, village tours, golf, various water sports, deep sea fishing and scuba diving.
Transportation Tips:
The Guanacaste region is most conveniently served by the LIR airport. Private transfers are available from either SJO or LIR airports. Shared transfers are available from the LIR airport only.
Travel Tips:
Bring long pants, a camera, a light jacket, swimsuit, binoculars, walking/hiking shoes, rubber soled shoes for water activities, sunscreen, insect repellent, a small backpack for excursions and a rain jacket.
Important Note: HOLY WEEK is an important religious holiday in Costa Rica. During late March to early April certain activities operated by local independent tour companies may not be available. Plus, alcoholic beverages may not be available at your resort or at establishments outside the resort.
