Wonderful locations near The Playa Blanca
The Panama Pacific coast is world famous for sport fishing. Ask the concierge about charters where you can reel in a giant marlin or sailfish. In addition to ocean fishing, some of the charter operators will take you into Panama’s interior to fish for trout in its streams or huge bass in its lakes.

The Panama interior mountains are an eco tourist dream. Rent a car and head up to el Valle where you can see some of Panama’s famous and currently endangered golden frogs. The extinct volcanic caldera is a verdant paradise. There are a number of walking tours around el Valle. There are also a number of nice restaurants in town, including Casa del Lourdes at Los Mandarinos Hotel and the Orchid Room at the Anton Valley Hotel.

If you come to el Valle on a Sunday, visit the market. There will be handcrafted items for sale at substantially lower prices than at the hotel gift shop. Check out the hand painted wooden bowls or bring home a hammock or basket made in Panama.

Around el Valle are waterfalls. They are most impressive from May to December, which is Panama’s rainy season. Visit El Macho, just five minutes from the center of el Valle. This beautiful part of Panama has been inhabited long before Columbus, so if you have time, ask about the petroglyphs. This is part of the world that was warm and wonderful during the last ice age!
