Overview:
A Manuel Antonio region vacation combines the rainforest with breathtaking white-sand beaches. Manuel Antonio and the adjacent port town of Quepos have become a Mecca for the jet set and Hollywood celebrities that come to enjoy the serenity of the place combined with an active nightlife that includes restaurants, bars and discotheques. The place has received plenty of coverage in travel magazines, which have listed it as one of the 10 most beautiful places in the world. From Manuel Antonio you can experience whitewater rafting, guided rainforest waterfall walks, horseback riding, snorkeling and sports fishing. Manuel Antonio National Park is the country's smallest national park at just over 683 hectares, but it is also one of its most amazing. Home to one of the last sizable populations of the endangered Squirrel Monkey in the region, White Faced and Howler monkeys are also common in the park. Playa Manuel Antonio is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica and has been rated one of the top ten in the world. The beach is a half mile long, perfect white sand crescent bordered by deep green mangroves and palms. Naturalist guides will explain the history and geography of the area as well as help you get the most of your visit by pointing out iguanas, monkeys, sloths, agoutis, armadillos, pisotes, coatimundis and raccoons. Activities in the Area:
Sample activities include: Canopy tours; Rainmaker Tour (primary rainforest/watershed area); Damas Island; Butterfly and Aquatic Gardens Nature Reserve; Savegre whitewater rafting; Naranjo whitewater rafting; Manuel Antonio National Park; Horseback riding; Canopy safari; Naranjo River (class III/IV) rafting; Savegre River (class II/III) rafting; wave runners; mangrove or sea kayaking tours; and a variety of water sports including surfing on the legendary waves of Manuel Antonio as featured in Endless Summer II.
Transportation Tips:
Private transfers are recommended to and from the airport. Shared shuttle is available from SJO airport, but only 2:30pm departure so be sure that arrival time allows ample time for customs, delays, etc. Driving distance is approximately 4 hours from SJO and 5 hours from LIR.
Travel Tips:
Bring along long pants, camera, light jacket, swimsuit, binoculars, walking/hiking shoes, rubber soled shoes for water activities, sunscreen, insect repellent, small backpack for excursions and rain poncho.
